MLBy Draft Format and Procedures

Each season MLBy will hold a Draft in three phases.

Little League players receive the benefit of being the only group eligible for the initial Territory Draft (Rounds 1-10). Qualifying Little League players can declare themselves eligible for the initial territory draft and receive an onboarding package. The onboarding package consists of an essay, questionnaire, baseball IQ evaluation test, and GPA verification. Players who complete and submit the onboarding package by February 1st (of each calendar year) will receive a combine invite. Upon successful completion of the combine players become eligible for the MLBy Territory Draft, Regional Draft, and Free Agency list.

Players not affiliated with Little League are eligible for the Regional Draft. The Regional Draft is held after all Territory Drafts are complete. Players must request an onboarding package and complete/submit by February 1st. Players who complete/submit the onboarding package will receive combine invites. Upon successful completion of the combine players become eligible for the

MLBy Regional Draft and Free Agency list.

MLBy maintains a comprehensive draft process to insure only the most dedicated and skilled players enter the league.

Phase One: The initial territory draft will cover rounds 1-10. Teams can only select players who live in pre-determined team territories. In some cases, territories overlap, and players can choose which draft to enter.

Phase Two: The regional draft will cover rounds 11-15. Teams can select any remaining regional player from the draft pool.

Phase Three: The practice squad draft will cover rounds 16-20.

Note: practice squad players can practice with the team that selects them in the practice squad draft but remain Free Agents and can be signed by any team.

Note(s):

In subsequent seasons the Free Agency list will be separated into 4 budget tiers. Teams will be assigned a budget tier based on the prior seasons regular season record. Teams can only select and utilize players from their Free Agency budget tier.

Practice squad players increase their chance of getting called up to fill Inactive List spots. Practice squad players can be called up/signed by any team that has an available roster spot.
